Power of Attorney
A power of attorney is a legal document that grants another person the right to act on your behalf. A durable power of attorney withstands the physical or mental disability of the person (grantor) giving the power. A durable power of attorney remains in effect even if the grantor becomes incapacitated and cannot make decisions for him or herself. A durable power of attorney is only effective if the grantor is alive. A springing power of attorney is an option as an alternative to a durable financial power of attorney. Instead of it being effective immediately, it “springs up” and becomes effective upon the incapacity of the grantor. We can prepare two types of durable powers of attorney, one is for financial matters and the other allows your agent to provide and make medical care decisions for you.
